The Missouri Public Service Commission (PSC) is seeking to fill an Engineer position in our Safety Engineering Department to act as an inspector.

The PSC regulates investor-owned electric, natural gas, steam, water and sewer utilities in Missouri. We ensure that Missourians receive safe and reliable utility services at just, reasonable and affordable rates. The Safety Engineering Department performs safety inspections of jurisdictional natural gas operators in Missouri for compliance with the Commission’s pipeline safety rules; investigates incidents involving natural gas; participates in complaint cases against jurisdictional natural gas operators; performs construction inspections and evaluations of pipeline systems and operators; and provides technical support in gas cases to others.
What you’ll do:
Act as an inspector for a minimum of 85 inspection days per year of pipeline safety inspections including but not limited to standard records and field inspections, operations and maintenance and emergency plan procedures.
Perform inspections on public awareness plans and effectiveness; operator training and qualification program and implementation; distribution integrity management program and implementation; anti-drug and alcohol plan and implementation; and master meter and construction inspections.
Perform on-the-job training of new pipeline safety inspectors following completion of specialized, required training over a period of years necessary to perform all inspection types required for the department.
Provide reports and testimony before the PSC and other regulatory bodies.
Position requires approximately 50% travel, including overnight and some weekend travel.
All you need for success:
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited college or university in engineering or equivalent (May graduates are welcome to apply);
0-4 years of progressive engineering experience, one year of experience in a regulatory, compliance, or utility environment preferred.
Lack of post-secondary education will not be used as the sole basis denying consideration to any applicant.
Successful completion of the Fundamental of Engineering (FE) examination is preferred.
Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Missouri required for the Professional Engineer position.
Experience with spreadsheets and word processing is essential.
The ability to work well in a team environment is a must.
Strong verbal communication, analytical, writing and interpersonal skills and personal computer experience is required.
Prior experience with natural gas pipeline design, construction, operation, or maintenance, or regulatory oversight of natural gas pipelines is preferred.
