The Director of Market Operations is responsible for short and long-term pre-scheduling and real-time market functions including, but not limited to, forecasting loads and resources, determining operational resource portfolio, recording contracted energy levels, creating, reviewing and approving electronic scheduling tags (e-tags), and negotiating long-term and day-ahead power and gas marketing transactions; submits long-term and pre-scheduling information to transmission service providers, gas suppliers, gas transport providers, and power suppliers ensuring effective coordination of power and gas scheduling; reconciles power and gas imbalance accounts; develops and conducts studies to improve planning, market and scheduling processes; ensures that senior management is well informed of area operations; and participates in industry and internal discussions on changes to UAMPS’ operations with regard to Western Market Integration and other industry initiatives.
Supervisory Duties:
Direct supervision of the Sr. Power Trader, Asset Manager, Power Trader
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering or a related field, or an equivalent combination of work experience and education.
Knowledge of power, transmission and gas markets operations and procedures in the western region. Preferably knowledge and experience with organized markets (RTO).
Understanding of computer programs related to power, transmission, and gas market operations

Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems (UAMPS) is a joint action agency that was established in 1980. UAMPS provides wholesale electric services, on a nonprofit basis, to 50 community-owned power utilities throughout seven Intermountain Western states including Utah, Arizona, California, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico and Wyoming. UAMPS presently operates 16 separate projects including ownership in conventional and renewable electric generation, power dispatch scheduling, transmission services, investigation of new output resources and energy efficiency programs.
